Birthday design: Lego themed toddler party

>> Saturday, August 15, 2009

This post is about an invitation I had created 2 years ago.

Little Kalen was turning two and the theme to his birthday was LEGO. I was thrilled to design the invitations as I am completely crazy about LEGO. I illustrated a little LEGO man sitting against a green LEGO board and emulated the LEGO font to spell out his name on the invites. It's not too clear in the image, but the little green dots on the LEGO board says "Kalen" instead of "Lego" like it does on the real thing.

*Can I say LEGO any MORE?*

LEGO. :)

I am excited to be doing this. Blogging, that is. I've been designing for about 7 years, but only seriously in the last 3 or 4. I've been meaning to join the ranks and start blogging about my work, so here I am.

A little about my work and style: My designs are all digitally illustrated by me. I used to be a good pencil artist, but since discovering the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator 10, I have changed my ways. :). I am a fan of anything kitschy and whimsical. One of my all-time favourite cartoon artwork is the work of Heinz Edelmann. He is best known for his art in the animated film "Yellow Submarine".

I will (eventually :p) be posting design work I've done and the new projects as they come along.

That's all for now. Please keep checking back for updates!
